"Row Rats"

There is one level of volunteerism on Cannery Row that has the unlikely title of "Row Rat." Rather than a derogatory name, it is the absolute opposite: in many ways it is the most important and regarded of our service volunteer categories.

A "Row Rat" needs no background in Steinbeck or Cannery Row historical detail. Only a willingness and interest in doing the really tough jobs that occasionally challenge the mission of the Foundation, its programs and special events.

If you take pride in doing spur-of-the-moment, normally thankless jobs for the gratification of knowing you are helping accomplish difficult objectives, then you could make a great "Row Rat." It is our highest accolade in volunteerism. And as a "Row Rat" you will never feel unthanked, unrecognized, or unappreciated.
